The Theo-Political Meaning of Diasporic Existence
Dan Diner (Ed.)

The unwritten laws governing social order in modern states are thrown into relief in analyses of diasporic experience. Diasporic experience can be characterised as transtemporal, transnational and horizontal and contrasts with the vertical organisation of national institutions that affects lives at the personal and the public level. Thus, analyses of clashes between diasporic communities and state institutions serve to bring to light the workings of the "behemoth".This issue is to focus on the notion "Diaspora" based on its historical manifestations and their changing interpretations. In particular, it will focus on the Jewish experience of Diaspora by showing the inner fabric of its political and theological elements: How Diaspora literally and spiritually created a place for human existence, what its epistemic dimensions are and, finally, the power of the metaphor of Diaspora in modern political thought.
